Buddha scoffs at Mamata's slogan

The 'Ma, Mati, Manush' slogan of Trinamool Congress which led to party's triumph over ruling Left Front in the state in Lok Sabha polls, came under criticism from Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Wednesday.


"Solution to problems cannot be found through Ma, Mati, Manush (theatrics). Solutions should be found through more industrialisation and agricultural activities," Bhattacharjee told a function in Kolkata.

The Ma, Mati, Manush (Mother, Land and People) slogan was coined by TC chief Mamata Banerjee after the Singur and Nandigram episodes from the name of a folk theatre. She used the slogan as the theme for party's Lok Sabha poll campaign.

Bhattacharjee also derided the Union Railway Minister's call for change in Bengal, asking "What change?"

"I saw a hoarding with this slogan. Does it mean that the clock should be put back on industrialisation and in agriculture to take us backward?" he asked.

He said the Trinamool Congress' success in the Lok Sabha elections was because it 'rode on the popularity of the Congress'.

Sharply reacting to the chief minister's comments, Banerjee said, "I have heard that he loves theatre, but he is now ridiculing the theatre. He is looking at our Ma, Mati, Manush slogan from a demonic angle."
