A CPI(M) leader of Gopiballavpur area in West Midnapore district, who was injured in an attack allegedly by Trinamool Congress men, died at SSKM Hospital on Tuesday.

After Ramjiban Khamri, 65, was attacked last Wednesday, he was referred to SSKM Hospital from Midnapore Medical College and Hospital. The CPI(M) leadership alleged that after the dates of elections were announced, supporters are continuously being attacked by the ruling party.

(On the other hand, in a fresh attack, at Patrasayer area in Bankura district, a zilla parishad candidate of CPI(M) was injured and admitted to Bankura Sammilani Medical College Hospital.) Khamri was allegedly attacked last Wednesday at his village at Manichberia.

On 19 June, Trinamool workers allegedly attacked Khamri with sharp weapons when he was in his house. His two sons, Samir and Bhagirath, were also injured when they came forward to save their father.

“During that attack, the goons cut the hand of Ramjiban and he was referred to SSKM Hospital from Midnapore Medical College Hospital in critical condition. On Tuesday he died there. This is another instance of the continuous attack on our party men by Trinamool goons. Every day we are being attacked and when go to lodge complaints, the police are refusing to accept them,” Pulin Bihari Baskey, district CPI(M) leader and MP from Jhargram, said.
