The Kolkata Police is considering taking legal action against Trinamool Congress leader and advocate Baishwanar Chatterjee after the cops allegedly faced his high handedness inside the court on different occasions.

On Friday, the Kalighat police station had to send re-inforcements to rescue the investigating officer of the Kalighat police station who is probing the police station ransack case. The police had produced the six accused - all Trinamool Congress supporters - who had ransacked the police station on Thursday night in court. Chatterjee had appeared on behalf of the accused. “We prayed that the arrested be remanded in police custody. During the hearing, Chatterjee started shouting against the police. He even asked his men to ensure that the investigating officer does not leave the courtroom after the hearing,” said an officer of Kalighat police station. That is when the Kalighat PS decided to send re-inforcements.

This is not the first time that Chatterjee has behaved like this. Last year, the Kalighat Police had started a case against a tenant who had thrown out his landlady - an elderly woman. The accused had forced the woman to hand over her house to him and had beaten her up. He had also snatched her necklace. “We arrested the tenant and produced him in court. But he did not get bail. During the third hearing, the court cancelled his bail petition. As soon as I came out of the court, Chatterjee started venting his anger on me,” said the investigating officer of the case.

According to the officer, in another case in 2012, Chatterjee made abusive remarks inside the courtroom when the police were opposing the bail of a woman who had adopted a child illegally.

When contacted, Chatterjee said, “All these allegations are baseless. If I did anything wrong inside the courtroom, then why did the police prosecutor not bring it to the notice of the court? Whatever I have said inside the courtroom was in the interest of my client.”
