A 27-year-old differently-abled woman was allegedly raped by her neighbour in New Town area in the northern fringes of the city on Wednesday.
The accused, a 30-year-old man, identified as Uttam Das, is, however, absconding.
The victim’s mother lodged a complaint with the police on Thursday.
This is the third incident of rape reported in the state in the last fortnight.
Meanwhile, students and women’s organisations on Thursday hit the streets of Kolkata to protest against the gangrape and murder of a girl in Barasat. Thirteen members of Maitree, a women’s rights organisation, were arrested for holding a demonstration near the South Kolkata’s Hazra crossing, close to the residence of West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee. The women’s activists held aloft placards demanding immediate action from Mamata to ensure safety and security of women in the state.
