The arrested duo has been identified as Nilofar and Nayna. Mohammad Rizwan, son of local Congress leader Chunnu Miyan and the prime accused in the outrage, picked up the minor girl along with Mohammad Imran, his alleged partner in crime. They reportedly took the minor away to a flat owned by Rizwan’s kin and took turns to rape her.

The gangrape brings back memories of the Park Street outrage back in February, when a single woman was lured out of a pub by a gang of four youths before they raped her inside a car.

The sleuths are reportedly on the lookout for two more youths, who were reportedly present at the flat during the time of commission of the crime. The accused Nilofar and Nayna allegedly lured the minor out of her residence on Wednesday evening, saying they were headed to a to a party by some friends and wanted her to join them.

The girls reportedly introduced her to the accused Rizwan and Imran as friends and the victim later left on Rizwan’s motorbike to where she thought the party was on. Nilofer and Nayna followed on two-wheelers of two other accused. Rizwan and Imran reportedly forced the victim inside a room of his kin’s flat, before taking turns to rape her.

An influential Congress leader, Chunnu Miyan was formerly deemed close to the CPI(M) and had even been arrested in connection with the abduction of shoe baron Partha Pratim Roy Burman.

Miyan, who later vaulted over to the Congress, reportedly had an independent shoe business in the locality and allegedly had a hand in many criminal activities in the area.

Acting on the victim’s complaint with Tiljala police on Thursday, the sleuths arrested the accused Rizwan and Imran on Thursday evening. Over the course of their interrogation, the duo reportedly took the names of Nilofer and Nayna and detailed how they lured the victim out of her house on the premise of joining a party. The sleuths also took the names of two other youths, who were present inside the flat.

After grilling the accused girls, the sleuths were convinced they had knowledge of Rizwan and Imran’s actual motive behind luring the victim out to the flat. The sleuths were reportedly shocked as to how the girls could have abetted the outrage on a fellow minor.

“The two girls knew what Rizwan and Imran had in mind. Despite knowing what they were upto, the girls did nothing to stop the victim from being subjected to the outrage that followed. They didn’t even care to alert the police about what was to happen,” Sujit Chakraborty, officer-in-charge of Tiljala police station told HT.

The sleuths said that Nilofar and Nayna are both residents of Tiljala area and quit studies after Class 10.
