Students of Bedrabad High School in Malda beat up the headmaster on Monday morning for allegedly molesting a teacher of the same school.
The headmaster was admitted to Malda Medical College and Hospital with serious head injuries.
On Monday morning, after the prayer session, the headmaster, Obaidullah Islam (45), called the teacher to his room and molested her.
After the teacher raised an alarm, the students attacked the headmaster and beat him up.
No written complaint, however, has been lodged against Islam.
A teacher of the school on condition of anonymity said, “The headmaster has been making indecent proposals to the lady teacher for quite some days now. She also told us that the headmaster had asked her out several times. And many a times, he also tried to touch her inappropriately.”
“Today (Monday) when the headmaster called her to his room and the teacher came out crying, hundreds of students beat him up. When he was trying to escape, some villagers nabbed him on the way and beat him up. They also damaged his bike. Later, the police rescued him.”
The headmaster was first taken to Bedrabad hospital from where he was shifted to Malda Medical College and Hospital.
Another teacher of the school said that the victim might lodge a complaint against the headmaster in the late afternoon.
Malda district TMCP president Prasenjit Das, however, slammed the way the students attacked the headmaster. “If the headmaster had done anything wrong, the students should have reported the matter to the police. I don’t conform to the way the teacher was beaten up.”
When asked, Malda Superintendent of Police Kalyan Mukherjee said, “Today (Monday) morning, trouble broke out at Bedrabad High School where a headmaster was beaten up by some outsiders. His bike was also damaged. We are looking for the troublemakers.”
When the SP was asked about the molestation incident, he said, “Till now, no one has lodged any complaint of molestation against the headmaster. Our primary investigation suggests that the attack on the headmaster was conducted by some outsiders.”
