Kolkata deputy mayor’s husband dies in accident

Abdul Momen (51), a Calcutta High Court lawyer and husband of deputy mayor Farzana Alam, died in a bike accident on Wednesday evening.

Momen, who was riding a bike to a Holi party at Bhangore, South 24-Parganas, was hit by a truck near Bantala’s Calcutta Leather Complex and killed on the spot.

Police informed Alam’s family around 5.30 am on Thursday. Alam had launched a search for her husband on Wednesday night but couldn’t locate him.

Chief minister Mamata Banerjee, mayor Sovan Chatterjee, panchayat minister Subrata Mukherjee, urban development minister Bobby Hakim and other Trinamool leaders paid a visit to Alam’s residence to convey their condolences.
