A day after a 12-year-old girl was molested and set on fire in West Bengal’s Howrah district, no arrest has been made in the case. The child, who sustained 75% burns, is battling for her life in hospital.
The case is the latest in a host of crimes against women in the state. On Wednesday evening, Kundan Malik, a neighbour, had allegedly assaulted the girl. When she had threatened to divulge the matter, he had allegedly poured kerosene on her and set her on fire.
“We have conducted raids at the home of Malik, we hope to catch him soon,” said Rashid Munir Khan, additional deputy commissioner of police, Howrah-north.
