Pradip Saha, a 38-yearold businessman, was found dead in his Manicktala apartment on Sunday morning. Neighbours and relatives of Saha discovered his wounded body at the flat in the morning.
Police are yet to start a case, as there has been no complaint registered so far. However, primary investigations are indicating a suicide.
Incidentally, Saha had sent his wife and son to his in-laws’ home in Baguhati the previous night. “We have sent the body for post mortem, but we are yet to start an official investigation as we have not received any complaint from the neighbours or any relative till late evening. All leads are indicating a suicide, however, we would have to wait for the post mortem reports,” said an officer of the Manicktala police station.
Police have recovered the weapon, a revolver, from the spot and some of the neighbours also claimed to have heard a gunshot late in the night. On Sunday morning when Saha failed to open the door even after repeated knocks, neighbours and a relative of Saha broke into the apartment only to discover his bloodied corpse, with a bullet injury in his forehead.
According to neighbours, Saha had returned home late on Saturday night. He was a popular resident of the locality and they never suspected he could commit suicide. Whether his death is an act of suicide or murder out of business rivalry is a matter of investigation. Though, the neighbours or relatives have not alleged any such rivalry issues involving Saha.
