But this mother failed to do her duty as her daughter was repeatedly molested in an up-market Kankurgachi flat of a lawyer.

According to sources, the mother forced her daughter to continue working at the flat despite knowing that she was molested.

Not surprisingly, the mother was arrested on Wednesday.

The girl worked as a domestic help in the flat of lawyer Lovely Chaddah, who was arrested on Wednesday.

Chaddah’s fiance Subrata Mishra was also arrested late on Wednesday night.

The police also arrested another lawyer Sabyasachi Roy Chowdhury, who used to visit the flat regularly.

The arrests come after the state child welfare committee filed a complaint. The child welfare committee also decided to send a show cause notice to the Hope Foundation for illegal detention of the minor.

“We are going to send the notice soon,” said chairperson Minati Adhikary.

The police on Wednesday produced the minor before the court for recording her statement before the magistrate.

The detective department of Kolkata Police has taken over the case.

The cops are in the dark about the identities of the police officers who frequented Chaddah’s residence.

“We have to proceed carefully as many claimed to the minor that they were police officers. Chaddah’s fiancé had even said that he was a deputy commissioner of police,” said an officer of Phoolbagan police station.

Roy Chowdhury had claimed his innocence on Tuesday.

The detective department’s women’s grievance cell officer interrogated Roy Chowdhury and tried to learn who were the visitors to Chaddah’s flat.

The police during interrogation learnt that Sabyasachi had close ties among some senior police officers at Lalbazar and Bhawani Bhavan.

The police are trying to zero in on those officers who used to visit Chaddah’s residence and used to molest the girl sexually.
