Officials from the police and Kolkata Port Trust will rummage through the Karachi-bound ship Aegean Glory, which was laden with arms and explosives, to verify all documents relating to consignment and registration of its cargo. The ship will be escorted to Netaji Subhas Dock in Kolkata
on Sunday.

The ship, registered in Liberia and loaded with explosives, rocket launchers, anti-aircraft guns and smoke bombs, was on its way from Bangladesh's Chittagong port to Pakistan.

No declaration about the arms and ammunition on board had been made. After reaching Sand Heads, 230 km from Kolkata port, the ship’s captain informed port authorities

on radio that it was on its way to the port to offload some items.

The captain also said the ship had an additional cargo consignment meant for Karachi, without disclosing the nature of the consignment.

The police detained the ship, which anchored in Hooghly, 50 km from Kolkata port, on Friday. “Right now we cannot say (if there is) anything legal or illegal about the arms-laden ship,” DGP Bhupinder Singh said. “It may be termed as a dangerous cargo carrying explosives if we don’t get proper declaration on consignment.”
