Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday heaped praises on Mamata Banerjee for her performance as Railway Minister and assured her his full cooperation in taking the railways forward.
"To the Railway minister, I say, she has my blessings. Let her go ahead. Because, if the railways move forward, the entire country will move forward," Mukherjee said at the flagging off ceremony of two express trains at the Sealdah station in Kolkata.
Describing the railways as the lifeline of the country's economy, Mukherjee said, "as the country's Finance minister, I will be interested in the functioning of the railways as it is a pillar of the economy. I will always be interested in the progress of the railways."
Mukherjee said that when Banerjee announced projects while placing the Railway Budget in Parliament, many were in doubt whether the promises would be fulfilled.
"Not even three months have passed since she placed the Railway Budget and so many projects have already been taken up not only in West Bengal, but in the entire country," he said.
Praising Banerjee for introducing a train between here and Ajmer Sharif, he said, "how many devout people are blessing her for this is beyond imagination."
