Trinamool Congress workers led by a councillor stormed IIT-Kharagpur on Tuesday and stopped all activities there for eight hours to press their demand for putting some workers on the payroll.
All the agitators were irregular employees of the institute.
As a result of this, the M Tech viva exam of 600 students could not be conducted on time.
At 5am on Tuesday Jawhar Pal, a local Trinamool councillor, along with more than 100 Trinamool supporters, blocked the main gate of the institute and kept shouting slogans and prevented people from entering the campus.
“Such an agitation by a political party paralysing the activities of the institution has never happened here,” said registra TK Ghosal.
“On April 10 we saw how outsiders carrying Trinamool flags ransacked Presidency University. Little did we know that we too would become victims of political violence within days,” he added.
