“Our government has been able to restore peace in Jangalmahal. This was our challenge and commitment after we came to power,” the chief minister said at a panchayat election meeting here in West Midnapore district. “We will never allow terror to return to this area,” the CM added.

At a meeting at Chatinashole under Gopiballvpur near Odisha border, the chief minister said, “The Maoists have no political ideology. So they kill people with impunity. They will not be spared. People like Jagari Baskey, Suchitra Mahato had returned to the mainstream and are now living a respectable life. We expect more members to take the same path. The Maoists are cowards so they come in the dark and go back after killing.”

She also challenged the Naxals. “I have heard that the Maoists want to kill me and other leaders and MLAs of our party. I challenge you. If you want to kill me, come forward. I am right here. But you won’t because you are a coward,” she said.

Before coming to Chatinashole, she addressed another rally at Nunia near Gidhni under Jamboni which is near Jharkhand state border. Minutes after the news of the state election commission moving the Supreme Court seeking its help to hold panchayat elections in West Bengal was made public, Mamata slammed the Opposition for the delay in the polls. “We want the polls to take place immediately and we want your support to defeat these parties who don’t want to face the challenge. The opposition parties are busy hatching a conspiracy against me rather than reaching out to the people,” Mamata added.
