Newly-appointed West Bengal finance minister Amit Mitra on Friday said the financial position of the state was "not at all good" and it would take some time for him to gauge the exact status.

"What I gathered is that the financial condition is not at all good and it will take some time to gauge the exact status after going through the detailed data," Mitra told PTI after his discussions with the senior officials.

The former Ficci secretary-general said he has discussed the financial condition with finance secretary CM Bachawat.

"I must give credit to the bureaucrats for giving me a true financial picture of the state," he added.

Earlier after wining from the Khardah constituency, Mitra had said that the West Bengal economy was in a moribund state and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banjerjee had to breathe new life into the economy.
