BJP patriarch LK Advani on Monday took a dig at the Congress for claiming victory after the special CBI court dismissed a petition against P Chidambaram in the 2G spectrum case, saying its stance sounded like claiming victory in a single T-20 cricket match after losing a test series.

"I find it laughable, the way a huge victory is being claimed… It is almost as if after losing a whole test series, we celebrate a single 20-20 match victory," Advani told reporters in Lucknow after attending the cremation of late BJP leader Ashwani Kumar.

He insisted the crux of the matter was that the Supreme Court had ruled 122 2G spectrum licences to be illegal: "What is important is that 122 licences were struck down by the Supreme Court. An appeal (in Supreme Court) against the lower court’s recent verdict will again address the question whether A Raja alone was guilty or there were others too."

Advani brushed aside telecom minister Kapil Sibal’s demand that the BJP apologise for having "dragged" Chidambaram into the controversy. He said there was no question of an apology.

A while later, BJP national spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy sought to corner Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi over corruption.

Responding to Rahul Gandhi's remarks in a news conference in the state that the BJP had opposed his idea of making lokpal a constitutional body, Rudy said, "Betrayal by the Congress was obvious in its midnight withdrawal from voting on lokpal in the Rajya Sabha. Rahul Gandhi says that the BJP opposed constitutional status to lokpal but he should remember that union minister Kapil Sibal had trashed the report of the CAG, a constitutional body, on 2G. What respect does the Centre have for constitutional bodies?"
