Ambedkarnagar SP suspended for laxity

A Home Department officer said the violence continued since morning but cops reached the spot after five hours.


The state government on Sunday suspended superintendent of police Ambedkarnagar DP Srivastava on the charge of laxity in handling communal violence on Saturday. A home department officer said the violence continued since morning but the police force reached the spot after five hours. The district police chief was found lax in the discharge of his duties, he said.

On Saturday, residents of Hazzipur village had organized a protest over cow slaughter and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits. The villagers had alleged that instead of nabbing those involved in cow slaughter, the cops arrested those who were organizing protest. Irate mob had set afire shops and damaged the vehicles. The police had to fire in the air to disperse the crowd. Though the protest continued for an hour, the cops did not reach the spot. The villagers marched to nearby Giraiya Bazar and blocked the movement of traffic. Yet the police force did not reach the spot.

It was only when the mob turned violent and started setting shops afire, CO Anoop Kumar and station house officer (SHO) Baskhari Om Prakash Yadav reached the spot with force.

To control the rampaging crowd extra police force from neighbouring Azamgarh was summoned. The police fired in the air to disperse the mob.

Kanpur: Six persons injured in communal clash

Six persons were injured in a clash involving members of two communities in Kanpur's busy Babupurwa area late on Saturday night. No arrests were made, though an FIR was registered against 14 people.
