Lucknow Development Authority’s bulldozers roared at Ayodhya Palace in Lalbagh and demolished six newly constructed shops here on Wednesday.
Former vice-chairman of the Khadi Gramodyog Board, Natwar Goel had built these shops on a 12-ft-wide road on Valmiki Marg without the approval of the LDA.
He was recently sacked from the post after he allegedly assaulted a photojournalist who had clicked pictures of the unauthorised construction being undertaken on a government school land in the area.
On Wednesday, an LDA squad led by executive engineer DC Yadav reached the spot and razed the shops amid some opposition by the workers of builder.
Though Goel was not present on the spot, he was reportedly trying to mount pressure on the LDA officials against the demolition.
LDA chief engineer SC Mishra said, “This is just the beginning. Many more demolitions would follow in the days to come and strict action would be taken against unauthorised constructions.”
Meanwhile, Natwar Goel deposited Rs. 80 lakh as bank guarantee to the LDA for Ayodhya Palace’s map. Though the map had been passed, it was yet to be released.
