Even as Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) continues to probe the multi crore National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scam another swindle in the health scheme came to light on Monday when the CBI team raided the dispensaries and additional director’s office run under the central government health scheme (CGHS) in Lucknow.
It was found that drugs had been purchased at a higher rate and to benefit certain company the health officers have purchased drugs that had no utility in the dispensary. “It’s a multicrore scam” a CBI officer said and added, “the racket had been active for the few years”.
The CBI sleuths raided six dispensaries run under CGHS scheme in Lucknow. Talking to HT, a CBI officer said the dispensary maintained no stock of the drug supplied by the central government, nor did they maintain a record of the drug that was given to the patients and in clear violation of the guideline of the government, the dispensary was purchasing medicine from the local market. Instead of using generic drugs, the medical officers prescribed branded drugs. The drugs were also purchased at much higher rate. The additional director floated tender for the local purchase of drug. Interestingly single company Messers Chandan Health Care Center grabbed the tender for supply of drug for all six dispensaries. The application of remaining companies that participated in the tender was rejected on flimsy grounds.
The additional director maintained no record of local purchase. During the raids the CBI sleuths found that instead of the employee of the CGHS an employee of the Chandan Health Care Center was seated at the drug distribution counter.
