‘Consumers paying for discoms’ inefficiency’

Continuing its protest against the steep power tariff hike, the UP Rajya Vidyut Upbhokta Parishad on Monday claimed that consumers were being forced to pay through the nose for the inefficiency of the power discoms.

In a statement, parishad president Awadhesh Kumar Verma said that during a recent all India rating done by the union power ministry, UP’s power distribution companies were found to be on the lowest rung in the ladder of efficiency.

Verma said the UPPCL and its discoms had failed to reduce their transmission and distribution losses and increase collection efficiency and curtail their wasteful expenditure. “Now, they want to make up for all their deficit through tariff hike that too by throwing all the rules to the winds,” he said and warned that the Parishad would fight till the tariff hike was withdrawn.
