The personal staff of Parliamentary Affairs Minister Azam Khan made an abortive bid to destroy and burn a large number of files and other official records right in front of the official room (number 100) of Khan in the Vidhan Bhawan in Lucknow on Friday.

As soon as the news spread, Director General of Police GL Sharma himself reached the Vidhan Bhavan, along with a strong police contingent, raided room number 100, took files and other material into his possession and later sealed the room.

Some members of Khan's personal staff were taken into custody, but they were later released after interrogation.

The DGP personally went to the Vidhan Bhawan when Mayawati herself asked him on phone to take necessary steps. Later, the would-be chief minister told reporters at a Press conference that she had asked the DGP to visit the spot.  She added that she got the information that Khan visited the office on Friday and, on his order, several official files were destroyed.

Mayawati said she would order a high-level inquiry into the matter

after constitution of her government.

On the other hand, one of Khan's personal staff members said cleaning of drawers and almiarahs was routine after a minister lost power. They were only cleaning the room for Khan's successor, he added.
