Less than a week after revoking her suspension, the Uttar Pradesh government on Friday posted IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal as the joint magistrate of Kanpur Dehat (rural).
Nagpal’s name figured on the list of 25 IAS officers reshuffled.
The government had revoked Nagpal’s suspension on Sunday.
She had been placed under suspension for the demolition of a wall of a religious place in Kadalpur village of Gautam Budh Nagar district on July 27. The 2010-batch IAS officer was then the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) in Greater Noida’s Sadar area.
Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and the ruling Samajwadi Party came in for widespread criticism over her suspension amid suspicion that she was punished for her crackdown on the sand mafia operating along the Hindon and Yamuna rivers in the area.
The decision to post Nagpal in Kanpur Dehat has been taken in view of the state government’s recent decision to transfer her husband, IAS officer Abhishek Singh, to the area.
After Nagpal’s suspension Singh had been posted as SDM Jhansi. Later the state government shifted Singh to Kanpur Dehat.
