The BJP on Wednesday dared Uttar Pradesh minister Azam Khan, the best-known Muslim face in the ruling Samajwadi Party, to contest Varun Gandhi, MP and general secretary of the saffron outfit, following the former’s criticism of the latter.

BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said the party was convinced of Gandhi’s ability to connect with the masses.

“That’s why he is the youngest general secretary of the party. But Khan, who invariably gets his own party into trouble, isn’t a patch on Gandhi. In case he does not agree, Khan should contest against Gandhi,” Pathak said.

Khan had recently attacked Gandhi after the latter’s court acquittal in the case of two allegedly hate speeches he had made in 2009.
