The state government on Monday announced to take stern action against those putting highly objectionable material against the chief minister Mayawati on the social networking website Orkut.

The Secretary Home Javeed Ahmad told journalists in Lucknow on Monday that the government would punish the culprits. "We have enough expertise to deal with such cases and the government would ensure punishment against the offenders," Ahmad said.

According to information some mischief mongers posted objectionable material against the chief minister on the site. "The state government has adequate legal provisions against cyber crimes and the police would take action," Ahmad said.

Referring to security measures on the eve of Raksha Bandhan and Shabe Barat on Tuesday, the Home secretary said the police had been put on high alert.

He said district police had been asked to keep vigil around graveyards because of large congregation of Muslims at these places on Tuesday. Following serial explosions in Hyderabad the state government has already issued red alert in the state, he said.
