A 32-year-old development officer working with private insurance company, Max Life Insurance, was shot dead after he resisted repeated harassment of his woman colleague by one of her clients in Aliganj area here on Tuesday afternoon.
The victim, Ajay Saraswat of Indira Nagar, snatched the assailant’s revolver even after sustaining gunshots on his chest and stomach but slumped to the ground before he could open fire. The assailant, identified as Girdhar Gopal Dixit (48) of Madiaon, then picked up his revolver and fled from the crime scene on his motorcycle.
Circle officer (CO) Aliganj Akhilesh Narain Singh said Dixit ran a local magazine and was allegedly involved in blackmailing.
He further said Dixit was stalking the woman ever since she did his insurance policy around three months back. He used to call her up at odd times and invited her to his place. He also passed lewd comments on her and even stopped her outside her office.
This made the woman seek Saraswat’s help. Singh said, “Saraswat had a verbal duel with Dixit on Monday morning after the woman informed him about her problem. He even visited Dixit’s place and warned him against calling her up again.”
However, an undeterred Dixit once again went to the insurance company office in Aishwarya Plaza near Purania crossing at around 4 pm.
The CO said Saraswat entered into a scuffle with Dixit after spotting him outside the office again even after repeated warnings. Following the scuffle, Dixit, who had apparently come prepared, opened fire on him.
A profusely bleeding Saraswat was immediately rushed to KGMU’s trauma centre where he was declared brought dead.
The police later raided Dixit’s house and recovered his motorcycle which had bloodstains on it. However, he remained at large till last reports came in.
Some of his friends and relatives have, however, been detained to trace his location.
