The suspense is building. Amidst the ‘will-he, won’t-he’ speculations in the saffron camp, former UP chief minister Kalyan Singh, whose re-entry into the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is widely anticipated, has convened a meeting of the office bearers of his Jan Kranti Party on October 5 to consult his partymen on the issue.

The saffron brigade appears willing to embrace their estranged mascot, who twice headed a BJP government in UP before being forced out of the party following differences with former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

"Both the RSS and the BJP are keen to reinduct Kalyanji into the saffron fold. Kalyan Singhji would be meeting several partymen on October 5. We hear that he would also be meeting some key leaders on October 4 as well. If all goes well, his re-entry could happen anytime after that," a source in the saffron camp said. Earlier, while talking to HT on phone, Kalyan had confirmed his decision to convene a meeting of JKP office bearers though he had sought to delink it with talks of his return. This isn't the first time when talks of Kalyan's return have surfaced. Just before the UP assembly polls, the RSS had initiated several efforts to convince Kalyan to join the BJP. But, then Kalyan, apparently ruffled by statements made by some BJP leaders against him, had blocked all entry proposals.

"This time the chances appear really bright as both Kalyan Singhji as well as his anti-lobby in the BJP are taking adequate precautions against offending each other," a source said. "It is now or never. If the re-entry has to happen, it would happen this time. Else it may never happen," the source added. While national BJP chief Nitin Gadkari is believed to be keen on reinducting Kalyan, other senior leaders like former national chief Rajnath Singh, senior national vice president Kalraj Mishra, sadhvi Uma Bharti (who reportedly was among the initiators of the bring-Kalyan-back move) too have given their consent to the proposal.
