It’s that time of the year when temperatures are soaring, vacations are round the corner and most of the parents want their little ones to chill out in a creative way.
Summer camps in the city have a lot in store for kids -- from dance, music, painting to science, model-making, swimming and acting -- there is no dearth of activities that raise the fun quotient of vacations.
Here are some options that can be explored this season:
This institution has always been the most sought-after destination for music lovers. Summer classes that are open here for all age groups begin on May 16 and would continue till June 15.
The courses include classical singing, vocal, kathak, Bharatnatyam, tabla, flute, harmonium, violin, sitar and guitar classes.
The fee for the courses is Rs. 1,200 each. Forms can be collected from the university on working days between 12:30pm and 5pm.
Bhartendu Natya Akademi, Gomti Nagar
For all those who wish to learn the intricacies of theatre, BNA can be the right place. The akademi would host a month-long theatre workshop for students in the age group 4-16 years. The play conceptualised during the camp would be staged during a show organised by the akademi on its campus.
Arun Trivedi, BNA director, said: “The classes beginning from June 1 would include comprehensive theatre training ranging from acting to stage craft, costume etc.”
Forms can be collected from the BNA office on all working days.
Rashtriya Kathak Sansthan
Kathak classes would be held for boys and girls aged between 6-28 years at the Kathak Sansthan, Qaiserbagh. The classes would be held for 20 days, beginning from the first week of June.
Sarita Srivastava, secretary, Rashtriya Kathak Sansthan, said: “The classes would teach students the basics of the art.”
Details of the workshop can be availed from the sansthan on all working days after May 14.
Regional Science City
To explore the scientist within, students can join the summer camp to be held at the Regional Science City in Aliganj. The classes that would be open for students of classes 3 to 10 include astro lab, science toymaking, fun with mathematics, model rocketry, creative kids art and electronics.
The classes will begin from May 20 and continue till June 8. The workshops at the Science City would be held in four batches, the first of which would begin on May 20 and continue till May 25, the second batch from May 27 to June 1 and the third batch from June 3 to 8.
The forms for the courses can be collected from the Science city. Fee for each course is Rs. 500.
St Francis’ College
Summer camps at the college would be held from May 16 to 31. The activities include swimming, table tennis, basketball, dance, badminton, soccer, cricket, martial arts, instrumental music, mental maths, handwriting improvement, communication and language, theatre and yoga. The fee for the courses ranges from Rs. 250 to Rs. 1,000.
Film and theatre workshop
The Lucknow Book Club, in association with JOSH Theatre Group, is organising a 30-day film and theatre acting workshop for youth at the Sangeet Natak Akademi in Gomti Nagar from May 4.
