Prof Neeraj Kumar of the MBA department of Lucknow University (LU) is again in the news for the wrong reasons. Prof JK Sharma of the same department has accused him of plagiarism, saying that Kumar had lifted content from a book authored by a foreign writer way back in 1966 for his research work in 1990s.

NBRI director CS Nautiyal, who was heading the probe instituted by LU into the matter, submitted his detailed report recently. He, however, refused to divulge the findings, citing them as confidential.

LU officials also confirmed receipt of the inquiry report. “Vicechancellor G Pattanaik is out of station. The matter will be taken up when he returns, and if necessary, the probe report will be tabled in the executive council meeting,” said an official of the V-C’s office.

How did the matter surface? Prof JK Sharma, the then head of the MBA department had raised the ‘plagiarism issue’ during the selection committee meeting in April 2012. He even put a note of dissent, objecting to Kumar’s appointment as professor in the department. Following the row, Kumar filed an RTI application in October 2012, seeking details of the minutes of the selection committee and executive council meeting that had ratified his appointment as professor. He also sought to know the charges against levelled against him.

According to Kumar, LU had yet not responded to his RTI query and that he was not aware about any probe pending against him. “Prof JK Sharma has always been biased against me. He was also instrumental in my termination from LU in 2002,” he alleged.

Kumar was sacked on charges of sodomy in 2002.
