Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav presided over the meeting of the state cabinet that also approved 10% discount on khadi clothes at approved retail outlets. The cabinet also decided to set up a men's sports college in chief minister’s native village Saifai in Etawah. A number of decisions had been taken regarding construction of expressways and other matters of public interest, said the chief minister while speaking to media persons after the cabinet meeting. As per the decision, the six-lane 270-km long Lucknow-Agra expressway would be developed with an estimated cost of R10,400 crore. It will pass through seven districts, including Agra, Firozabad, Etawah, Mainpuri, Kannauj and Hardoi. The expressway will have 10.25 metre wide greenbelt on both the sides. The state government hopes that the expressway would bring about economic development to the area and be helpful in expeditiously taking the agriculture produce - potato and mango -- to the markets and setting up of agro processing and food processing industry in the area. It will also be helpful to the perfume industry of Kannauj, glass industry of Firozabad and leather industry of Kanpur.
