City buses remained off the roads for the second consecutive day on Wednesday, resulting in chaos at major crossings and auto stands.
Owing to the strike called by the contractual employees of UPSRTC, almost all the 180 city buses and a large number of the Roadways buses did not ply at all. Commuters were left at the mercy of tempo and auto drivers and the private buses.
The employees were agitating to pressurise the state government to accept their 14-point charter of demands, which included service benefits and facilities at par with that of the permanent staff members of the corporation.
“There is no strike now. The buses will run from Thursday morning,” said an official.
