Former Uttar Pradesh cabinet minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya got into another controversy when his former public relation officer (PRO) Rajiv Kumar Yadav lodged an FIR against him for fraud and forgery at Aliganj police station.

Yadav is the key witness in the multi-crore food grain scam that took place when Raja Bhaiya was food and civil supply minister in the previous Samajwadi Party (SP) government from 2003 to 2007. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is probing the scam in which Raja Bhaiya is prime accused.

In the FIR, registered on Tuesday, Yadav has accused the former minister of opening a forged bank account in his (Yadav’s) name in HDFC bank’s Purania branch in Aliganj and using it for illegal transaction of money procured through the food grain scam. Yadav has also named Raja Bhaiya’s wife Bhanavi Singh, his aide Rohit Kumar Singh, the aide’s wife Monica Singh and the then bank branch manager Wasiullah Sarwar Ali in the FIR.

Yadav quit Raja Bhaiya’s job in 2008 after working with him for four years while the bank account was opened in 2009.

Yadav told HT on phone that he was running from pillar to post for the past several weeks but the FIR was registered only on June 25. He also approached court to get his complaint registered and the court, on June 19, had sought a report from the city police in the matter. The police had to submit the report on Friday but before it they registered the FIR.

Yadav had earlier apprehended life threat from Raja Bhaiya and his relative Akshay Pratap Singh after which security cover was provided to him and one Manoj Tiwari, who is another key witness in the scam.

Raja Bhaiya was also minister in the present SP regime but quit the post after he was accused in the murder of Dy SP Zia-ul-Hauqe in March this year.
