The state government, which sought to clear Rs. 5861.29 crore supplementary grants on Tuesday, drew flak from the opposition for demanding a large chunk of funds for Saifai, the native village of chief minister Akhilesh Yadav.

BJP leader Hukum Singh said the supplementary budget should have been named “SaifaiKannauj” budget. The BSP members staged a walkout when the supplementary demands of grants were put to vote in the House.

Leader of Opposition Swami Prasad Maurya said the state government had sought supplementary budget without using the budgetary funds.

Maurya quoted a letter of the chief secretary which he said indicated that the state government was not serious about its job.

Congress legislature party leader Pradeep Mathur said the state government should take appropriate action to check scam in the agriculture department.

A sum of Rs. 100 crore had been distributed in cash by the land conservation department in violation of norms, he said. Later, the House passed the Uttar Pradesh Appropriation (supplementary for 2012-2013) Bill 2012.
