Burglars broke into a jewellery showroom in Sadar and decamped with gold and silver ornaments worth over Rs. 20 lakh. The burglars committed the break-in when the showroom was closed for Holi festival on Wednesday and Thursday.

The theft came to light when the showroom was opened on Friday.

Bihari Lal Ram Gopal jewellery showroom is housed in the ground floor of a three-storeyed building near Sadar vegetable market. Police said the burglars entered the building from the rooftop and used gas cutters to break two iron doors to enter the showroom. The miscreants broke the two lockers using the gas cutter before fleeing with valuables kept in it.

Owner DP Kesarwani, however, has not provided the exact details about stolen jewellery but the police apprehended that the burglars had taken away valuables worth over two crore. “We suspect it to be a multicrore burglary as the thieves had left behind around 30 kg of silver jewellery, which itself would be around Rs. 1.6 crore,” said a cop on the probe. SSP J Ravinder Goud said the FIR had been lodged.

Dog squad and finger prints experts had been used to find out the leads.
