The Samajwadi Party is likely to postpone its national executive meet which was scheduled to take place in Agra on September 11 and 12. The decision comes in the wake of deadly communal clashes in western Uttar Pradesh in which 28 people have been killed.

The party has made all the preparations for the summit but SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav is reportedly having second thoughts about going ahead with it in the present situation.

“The party chief would take the final decision on this today (Monday),” said party sources. The spokesperson of the party Rajendra Chowdhary also said the final decision will be announced on Monday.

Some senior leaders of the party have discussed the issue with the party chief and state chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and told them that “postponement would be logical as the party and the government should focus on the communally tense scenario”. The national executive’s main agenda is 2014 Lok Sabha elections and governance in UP.
