UP cabinet minister Shivpal Singh Yadav has ruled out any possibility of a CBI probe into the recent Muzaffarngar violence.

Addressing a press conference at Vikas Bhawan on Sunday, Yadav said the state government was fully capable of probing the causes of the riots.

Some parties were trying to gain political mileage from the riots, but they would get no benefit, he alleged.

Yadav was here along with a 10-member committee to review the relief operations in camps.

Yadav said the Kaval case was blown out of proportion as communal forces managed to turn it into a big communal riot, but as soon as the government came to know about the situation, arrangements were made and the violence was controlled within a day.

Now both the communities wanted peace in Muzaffarngar and people were coming forward to maintain harmony, he said.

On the issue of CBI probe into the violence, Shivpal said ,“The state government is capable of initiating a fair probe.

A judicial enquiry has already been started. We shall provide justice to riot victims. Then why is there any need of a CBI probe?” He emphasised that bigger incidents had been reported in the past, but such quick action to control riots was never taken by other government.

Earlier, Yadav and his committee appealed to those living in relief camps to return to their native places.

“We shall provide complete security to such people if they return home,” Yadav said.
