With people agitating over rationing of LPG cylinders, the state government is considering to provide subsidy to increase the number of cylinders per connection.

Minister of state for labour Shahid Manzoor told journalists in Lakhimpur Khiri on Wednesday that moves were afoot to provide subsidy to the people in the state.

He said chief minister Akhilesh Yadav had already expressed his desire to provide relief to the people on the issue. Manzoor, however, said that a final decision would be taken by the state cabinet.

Addressing a rally in Azamgarh on Tuesday, the chief minister had indicated about the government's plan. He said the financial situation was tight but the government would do something for the people. Sources here said that food and civil supplies department had been working out a plan for subsidy.

While fixing six subsidised cylinders in six months, the UPA government had announced to give three more subsided supplies in remaining six months.

However, the Congress had also immediately announced that the state government under its control would provide subsidy on three more cylinders.
