UP appoints inquiry commission to probe violence

The state government has appointed a one man inquiry commission to probe the incidents of violence in Muzaffarnagar and fix responsibility of officers there.


According to sources, justice (retd) Vishnu Sahai will conduct the probe. A retired judge of Allahabad High Court justice Sahai has been asked to submit his report in two months or at the earliest.

Sources said Justice Sahai had been asked to probe the unfolding events in Muzaffarnagar from the beginning of the violence on August 27, to now.

Meanwhile Governor BL Joshi has expressed his serious concern over the incidents of violence in Muzaffarnagar. Governor has sent a letter to chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and sought details about the incidents of violence and the present situation there.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also spoke to chief minister Akhilesh Yadav to know about the steps being taken to restore peace in Muzaffarnagar.

Later at a function here chief minister said besides speaking to Prime Minister he also spoke to union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde and Governor BL Joshi and apprised them of the situation in Muzaffarnagar.

Chief secretary Javed Usmani said he was in touch with the Union Home secretary and other officials on the issue.

“We are speaking to each other twice or thrice,” he said.
