Principal secretary, Home, RM Srivastav said that the decision has been taken and a letter of recommendation was being sent to the CBI.

The move comes on a day on which Vandana Singh, wife of the slain former MLA, reiterated that she and her family members would begin a fast-unto-death if a CBI probe was not ordered by July 24.

She made her point in a letter to chief minister Akhilesh Yadav.

The letter was submitted to the Azamgarh district magistrate and copies were sent to the director general of police (DGP), inspector general (IG), and the state home secretary.

Vandana and Survesh’s brother Santosh had earlier said they had no faith in the police inquiry.

Also, she sought a compensation of Rs. 25 lakh for those killed and 10 lakh for the injured in the police firing that took place on July 19, after her husband’s murder.

Besides, she demanded withdrawal of cases registered against hundreds of persons after the murder. She also sought security for the whole family for their lifetime.

Meanwhile, the killers of the BSP leader remained at large even as police continued their raids.

There were unconfirmed reports that police had booked four local journalists in cases of attempt to murder and under other sections of the IPC.
