In an effort to reach out to more people, Uttar Pradesh police is set to give its website a complete overhaul. The new website, to be unveiled soon, is expected to be more informative, responsive and user-friendly.
A three-member committee was recently constituted by the director general of police AC Sharma for suggestions on the up-gradation of the website. The committee has submitted its report and the technical services wing of the police has been entrusted with the task of improving the site.
Through the website, citizens would be able to communicate about the happenings around them to the police. For example: If someone’s car gets stolen, he/she would be able to alert the police about it and all one would have to do is share the vehicle’s registration number.
Moreover, the district police too will regularly upload the progress made in investigation of crime cases. E-mail IDs of senior police officers in the 75 districts of UP would be available on the website. This way, if a person thinks police in his area has failed to redress his grievances, he can send his complaint directly to senior police officials like the DGP via e-mail.
However, the facility of registering FIR would not be not available on the website. “The registration of an FIR requires legal formalities, which could not be done on cyber space,” a police officer said.
The state police is also working on making its website a medium of resource and information. A person can get information about various acts and systems (e.g. juvenile justice system) of the police force. “The website would be of much use to scholars doing research on crime and policing system,” said the police officer. The archaic look of the website too would make way for a smart, modern look.
The website would have something to offer to the police personnel as well. They could get career related information like promotion, salary up-gradation, transfer, posting etc on the website itself. The link of all police wings, including personnel, establishment, radio, training, technical services, recruitment, fire services, special task force, economic offences wing etc will be available on the website.
