It seems the Uttar Pradesh government is fast backing down from its grandstanding against suspended IAS officer and Guatam Budh Nagar SDM Durga Shakti Nagpal.

State officials are furiously trying to put a lid on the controversy with some senior officials suggesting that Durga's suspension could be revoked after she files her reply to a charge sheet filed by the UP government just a day ago.

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav's remarks on Tuesday also sent positive signals that a quick resolution will be reached, "Jyada aage mat badhaiye (Don't drag the issue any longer)."

Health Minister Ahmad Hasan, who was with Akhilesh during the press meet, called Durga a liar but said "justice will be done to the officer".
Nagpal has been given 15 days to file a reply, however, she may be asked to do so earlier with an assurance that justice will be done.

"We hope a solution will be worked out in the next few days. Let's keep our fingers crossed as the issue of her suspension has snowballed into a major controversy," said a senior officer.

"The state government wants to follow the set procedure. It may let off the officer with a minor punishment like a warning. Her suspension may be withdrawn after examination of her reply," he added.

Another option being explored is to set up an administrative inquiry to probe the demolition of the mosque wall. "As a fall out her suspension may be withdrawn," said another officer.

Various options being explored however do not include any move to withdraw the suspension without getting a reply from the woman IAS officer.
