The Uttar Pradesh government offered slain deputy superintendent of police Zia-ul-Haque’s wife, Parveen Azad, the post of officer on special duty (OSD) in the police welfare department on Friday even as the CBI began its probe in the case.
The state government also offered the DSP’s younger brother, Sohrab Ali, a constable’s job in the same department.
The OSD job is on a par with the DSP rank demanded by Parveen, a final year student of bachelor of dental surgery.
“The appointment letter has been issued to Parveen. She will get pay scale of Rs. 15,600- Rs. 39,100,” said state home secretary Kamal Saxena.
Parveen, who is unwell, did not say if she would take up the job. Uttar Pradesh has a precedence of widows of police officers being offered OSD posts.
Meanwhile, a CBI team from Delhi, led by DIG Anurag Garg, reached Kunda and questioned local police and administrative officials on what led to the related murders of Haque, who was the circle officer of the area, and two others on March 2.
Though Garg declined to talk to the media, sources in the agency said an angle of Haque’s crackdown on illegal mining had emerged.
