More than 60 children were said to be ill after consuming mid day meal at a government primary
school in Bundala village, officials said on monday.      The incident took place on Saturday afternoon when 63 students complained of vomiting and dysentery after eating
the food provided to them under mid day meal scheme.

Around 43 children were admitted to Betul district hospital on sunday in the early hours after their condition
deteriorated while 20 others were later taken for treatment, Ghanshyam Sahu, a resident of Bundala village said on monday.

Dr Arun Srivastava, who is attending on them, said the condition of the children was out of danger and adequate
medical facilities were being provided to them.

He said the children might have fallen sick due to food poisoning or contaminated water.

Meanwhile District Collector, Vijay Anand Kuril, who visited the hospital along with senior police officials to
enquire about the children's health said the samples of food served to the children have been collected for examination.

Instructions were also given to seal the hand pump in the school premises and send its water for testing, he said.

"The exact cause of sudden illness will be known only after the test reports of food and water samples," Kuril said.

A high level probe into the matter has been ordered and action would be taken against those found guilty, he added.
