Jodhpur Police on Tuesday sought a look-out notice for Asaram Bapu to prevent him from fleeing the country even as the controversial self-styled godman received the summons personally in Indore for questioning in a sexual assault case.

After waiting for more than seven hours on Tuesday, two Rajasthan policemen handed over summons to rape-accused godman Asaram Bapu, who later said he would not be able to keep his commitment to them.

The police had asked the godman to appear before them in Jodhpur, where the alleged rape took place, within four days, which he agreed to do.

“My schedule is very tight till August 30, how would I reach Jodhpur? My followers will suffer,” he told mediapersons before leaving for Surat.
A lookout notice has been issued to prevent him from leaving the country.

Asaram Bapu presented before the media a girl, supposedly the victim’s friend, who said, “She (victim) said on the phone she was being pressured by her parents to speak against Bapu.”

Initially Asaram Bapu’s disciples had told the police he could not meet them as the godman was in ‘ekant vas’ (in isolation).

Around 50 supporters of Asaram shouted slogans saying the charges were false. BJP MLA Ramesh Mendola concurred.
