Zahida Parvez and Saba Farooqui, the two women arrested in RTI activist Shehla Masood’s murder case, have turned the spotlight on BJP MLA Dhruv Narayan Singh, accusing him of being the “mastermind”.
Two days after interior designer Parvez had targeted the MLA from Bhopal (central) constituency, her aide Farooqui on Friday told mediapersons to “ask Dhruv Narayan” why Masood was killed.
Farooqui also accused the CBI of shielding Singh. “We have provided whatever information we had. It is surprising why the CBI is hiding this.”
Farooqui, who was produced in the special CBI court, refused to testify under section 164 of CrPC for the second time. A statement under the section is admissible as evidence in court.
After a hearing in the case on April 11, asked by mediapersons if Singh and BJP spokesperson Tarun Vijay were in anyway involved in the killing, Parvez had said, “Aap sab ko pata hai... aap sab samajhte hain... bahut jyada involvement hai unka (you all know it... you understand everything... they are deeply involved).”
On April 3, Parvez had spoken of a “mastermind” for the first time, but not named any one. Singh and Vijay, a Rajya Sabha member from Uttarakhand, have denied any involvement in Masood’s murder. The CBI has put Singh through the polygraph (lie detector) test. Masood, 39, was shot outside her house in Bhopal on August 16 last year.
According to a source privy to the investigations in the case, one angle is that Singh was the object of affection of both Parvez and Masood, which led to a crime of passion.
