Income tax sleuths recovered

Rs. 2 crore in cash to the officers who raided the couple’s house in Bhopal.
Arvind Joshi, whose father retired as an inspector-general with the state police, said he had invested a similar amount of Rs. 2.25 crore in his mother’s name with ICICI Prudential.
While income tax officers raided the couple’s house, Arvind Joshi was on his way back from New Delhi and was quizzed at the Bhopal airport. Grilling, however, made him surrender the cash and investment certificate at his house later.
The raid on the couple’s house was part of 20 simultaneous raids by income tax sleuths in Bhopal and Chhattisgarh capital Raipur. IT sources surmised that the raids yielded unaccounted wealth amounting to more than Rs. 200 crore.
IT department’s Director General (Investigations) Brijesh Gupta told HT that search operations covered officers who had parked huge amounts in insurance policies and were paying hefty premiums.
