The theft of five underground cables of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has left over 4,000 landline and 2,500 Internet connections in Ulhasnagar and Ordinance Estate in Ambernath dysfunctional.

Ashok Manani, sub-divisional engineer, BSNL, Ulhasnagar, said, “Five cables of the BSNL near the Hira Marriage Hall in Ulhasnagar were stolen on Thursday night. We learnt about the incident only after receiving complaints from customers. The problem would be fixed within a week.”

Dilip Rajwani, owner, Hira Marriage Hall, said, “We saw seven men digging the road on Thursday night. They told us that they were carrying out the repair work for a service provider.”

A case of theft has been registered at the Ulhasnagar police station. Siddharth Wagh, police inspector, said, “We have asked Rajwani for the footage of the CCTV camera installed outside the hall.”
