Two Chhattisgarhi labourers were killed and 13 others, including two women injured when a four-story building, collapsed at Chikhli Layout near Kalamna market in East Nagpur locality on Monday night.

The huge building came down within minutes, as if dynamited by design, muffling
the screams of those trapped inside, and making onlookers numb with shock and sheer disbelief about the magnitude of the disaster.

The victims were identified as Santram Bharati (50) and Dilip Walde (60). All the injured were rushed to the local Mayo general hospital where three persons reported to be very serious.

The under-construction building housed a cold storage plant that collapsed, trapping the labourers working there. The power supply was disrupted in the area post collapse and fire brigade and police teams have launched massive rescue operations till early this morning.

The city police have booked the owner of the building, Pramod Khandelwar under various sections of Indian Penal Code. Khandelwar surrendered before the police this morning, the police further informed.
