In the wake of allegations of impropriety against some of his core committee members, social activist Anna Hazare has decided that the anti-corruption movement led by him would adopt a constitution but ruled out the possibility of revamping the core group.

"This constitution will
decide on members of the core committee, working committee and also check their character," social activist Anna Hazare said in a statement read out by prominent aide Arvind Kejriwal.

"If any member commits a mistake, action will be taken as per the constitution," the statement said.

Hazare, who is on a vow of silence, also backed his core team, of which Kiran Bedi, Prashant Bhushan and Kejriwal have been embroiled in controversies.

"I personally do not feel it is proper to dissolve the core committee. The government and the Congress are out to defame the agitation but it will not yield any results," he said.

Team Anna members Kejriwal, Bhushan and Bedi had flown to Hazare's village on Sunday, a day after holding a core committee meeting in Ghaziabad.

The trio has recently been in a storm over allegations of misuse of funds (Bedi), non-payment of dues to the government (Kejriwal) and advocating a plebiscite in Kashmir (Bhushan) that threatened to erode the team's credibility.
