The Palghar police, on late Sunday, arrested 10 Shiv Sena party workers for allegedly vandalizing the Palghar-based hospital of Dr Abdul Dhada, uncle of Shaheen.
Shaheen, 21, was arrested on Monday for allegedly promoting hatred between the masses after she posted an update on her Facebook profile denouncing Sunday's bandh in the aftermath of the demise of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray.
"The 10 accused were produced before a court on Tuesday, following which they were remanded to judicial custody and subsequently released on bail of Rs. 7500 each. Ten others are wanted in the case and should be nabbed soon," said an official from the Palghar police.
Those arrested for the vandalism are Jaffar Abdul Shaikh, 27, Hemant Bhosle, 30, Ganesh Harijan, Mukhtar Shaikh, 55, Imran Khan, 29, Mohankumar Madesia, 22, Usman Khan, 23, Santosh Pujari, 24, Mahesh Govari, 36 and Sadanand Bange, 35.
"All the accused are members of Shiv Sena and Palghar residents. Further investigation is underway," said S Pingle, senior inspector, Palghar police station.
As the accused walked out of the court premises after getting bail, a crowd of over a 100 people that was waiting for them started chanting slogans cheering the 10 men.
The 10 men, meanwhile, boarded the two SUVs that were waiting for them outside and left immediately after.
Gopal Barve, defense counsel said that the prosecution had asked for the police custody of the accused to nab the wanted ones.
"However the court observed that police custody wasn't necessary and remanded the accused to magisterial custody, following which they were released on bail," he said.
The police said that the accused have been booked under Indian Penal Code sections 143 for unlawful assembly, 147 for rioting, 336 for an act endangering life and personal safety of others, 427 for causing damage to property and 451 for house trespass in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment.
They were also booked under relevant sections of the Criminal Law Amendment Act and Maharashtra Medical Act.
