A resident’s group, the Santacruz- Vile Parle Nagrik Manch (SVNM) said that they have collected around 12,000 signatures in two days for their signature campaign to protest against the transfer of ACP Vasant Dhoble.
Members of the Shiv Sena and MNS have put up banners across Vile Parle (East), while the Shiv Sena has also started its own signature campaign outside Parleshwar temple at Vile Parle (East).
Nitin Dicholkar, Shiv Sena shakha pramukh, Vile Parle (East) told HT, “Around 5,000 supporters have signed the petition expressing their support for Dhoble. Not only are the locals coming forward, but people from other areas have also been supportive.”
Dicholkar added that they would gather outside Vile Parle railway station to enlist more signatures for the campaign.
Suresh Acharya member of SVNM said, “We have registered 12,600 signatures in a span of two days at our booth in Vakola. People are voluntarily coming forward to express their support for Dhoble.”
The residents, including children and senior citizens, were seen signing the petition at Parleshwar temple.
“Residents were satisfied with the work that ACP Dhoble was doing. However, some politicians took undue advantage of the situation. And made him a scapegoat,” said Cassie Misquita, 45, a resident of Vile Parle (West).
25-year-old Prasad Joshi said, “Dhoble’s transfer is obviously on account of political pressure. When the autopsy reports have stated that the hawker [Madan Jaiswal] died a natural death, why is the government not willing to reinstate Dhoble?”
